Report on catholic activities

Our college, the Providence Women’s College, was established in the year 1952 by the Apostolic Carmel Congregation with the aim of offering the service of value based higher education to youth through academic pursuit education of excellence, community service and empowerment of women. Apart from the educational mission the college stresses equal importance on all round development of students instilling Gospel values in them. The various Catholic activities in the college itself proves this. We begin each academic year with the College Mass, thereby entrusting everything in the hands of God. Every day in the college, we begin our classes by invoking the blessings of Almighty. The weekly time-table sets apart one hour for Catechism classes for Catholic students and value education for others. These classes enable the students to attend sessions on various relevant issues aiming towards their personality development. On all first Fridays we have adhoration in the chapel. We also set apart a day for special adhoration annually. Various church feasts like Carmel day, St. Thomas day, St. Treesa of Avila’s feast, Little flower’s feast, Sacred Heart’s feast etc are commemorated with great faith. The feast of our foundress Mother Veronica is celebrated on November 16th. The Bible Sunday celebrations last for week and the students actively participate in various programmes like presenting Bible drama, skit, quiz etc.

The spiritual renewal and awakening is provided by the Annual Retreat which lasts for 4 days. For stronger inducement of spirituality in students, essay and quiz competitions based on the Holy Bible are conducted for the students. Every academic year ends with a thanksgiving mass, in which we express our gratitude for all the protection and blessings the Almighty had provided.

The activities of ACA as well as Jesus Youth both being student oriented organizations are active in spiritual endorsements. Junior ACA is an association of students under Apostolic Carmel Congregation expressing their willingness to take part in the mission of the Congregation. Jesus Youth is a youth movement under the service of Catholic church which is active in the campus. About 50 students of the campus are active members of Jesus Youth and we gather every Thursday from 12.45 to 1.30 pm for prayer, sharing etc. we have a teacher and a full time in charge of our group. The core group members meet on every Wednesdays and we have intercessory prayer on all Tuesdays. Students of the movement attend camps and training programmes.
